Jeep Back Story
So I bought a 1978 Jeep CJ5 from my brother-in-law's neighbor for $1200. The guy I bought it from was in the process of replacing the frame and had already finished up a majority of the chassis work. He just needed to do some welding to make the body mount properly to the frame. The jeep has all fiberglass body components and a new frame, so fortunately I do not have to deal with any rust problems. It came with a bunch of cool jeep gadgets (we'll get to those later) and hardware all of which will be cleaned, fixed, and painted throughout the next few weeks.
The color scheme for the Jeep is going to be an olive drab color with flat black hardware with the exception of the many stainless steel fasteners and hardware (mirrors, hood hinges, window hinges, and such will remain in their stainless steel state as it would be such a shame to paint them). The engine will also be painted a bright contrasting color (orange or red) to aid in the assembly and long term maintenance. The front end and read end will also be painted with a rust inhibiting paint
The mechanics of the jeep are going to be restored to intended working orde--no performance upgrades are currently on the plate. The present plan is to get the jeep in a reliable, aesthetically pleasing state before we start tuning it and tweaking it for off-road performance. The only major mechanical work will be the usual replacement of parts to restore original working order, in addition to changing fluids, filters, hoses, and wiring for aesthetics and reliability. The exhaust system is going to be a dual system featuring the Flowmaster series 40 mufflers.
